  1. (a)Functional design criteria must be defined for each design feature classified as SR or non-safety-related but safety-significant (NSRSS) in terms of its role in demonstrating compliance with—
    1. (1)The safety criteria in § 53.220; and
    2. (2)The evaluation criteria in § 53.450(e).
  2. (b)The identification of special treatments associated with the design of SR and NSRSS SSCs must consider human actions and programmatic controls identified and implemented in accordance with this and other subparts to achieve and maintain the reliability and capability of SSCs relied upon to satisfy—
    1. (1)The safety criteria in § 53.220; and
    2. (2)The evaluation criteria in § 53.450(e).
