  1. (a)A permit is required for any person to collect paleontological resources, except as allowed in provisions in subpart I of this part.
  2. (b)A permit may be required by a Federal land manager for paleontological research or paleontological consulting activities that do not involve collection.
  3. (c)A permit is required for Federal Government personnel, agents, or contractors to collect paleontological resources unless the bureau authorizes the action by programmatic or other means.
