1. (a)General description.
   1. (1)Germination habit: Epigeal dicot.
   2. (2)Food reserves: Cotyledons, which are thin and leaf-like; endosperm (fleshy food-storage organs) usually persisting in the laboratory test.
   3. (3)Shoot system: The hypocotyl lengthens, carrying the cotyledons, endosperm, and epicotyl above the soil surface.
   4. (4)Root system: A primary root, with secondary roots usually developing within the test period.
2. (b)Abnormal seedling description.
   1. (1)Cotyledons:
      1. (i)Less than half of the original cotyledon tissue remaining attached.
      2. (ii)Less than half of the original cotyledon tissue free of necrosis or decay.
   2. (2)Endosperm:
      1. (i)Missing.
      2. (ii)[Reserved]
   3. (3)Epicotyl:
      1. (i)Missing.
      2. (ii)Damaged or missing terminal bud.
   4. (4)Hypocotyl:
      1. (i)Deep open cracks extending into the conducting tissue.
      2. (ii)Malformed, such as markedly shortened, curled, or thickened.
   5. (5)Root:
      1. (i)None.
      2. (ii)Weak, stubby, or missing primary root with weak secondary or adventitious roots.
   6. (6)Seedling:
      1. (i)One or more essential structures impaired as a result of decay from primary infection.
      2. (ii)Albino.
