The following restrictions apply for using credits.
  1. (a)Averaging sets. Credits may be exchanged only within an averaging set. The following principal averaging sets apply for vehicles certified to the standards of this part involving credits as described in this subpart:
    1. (1)Light HDV.
    2. (2)Medium HDV.
    3. (3)Heavy HDV.
    4. (4)Note that other separate averaging sets also apply for credits not related to this part. Separate averaging sets also apply for engines under 40 CFR part 1036, including engines used in vehicles subject to this subpart.
  2. (b)[Reserved]
  3. (c)Credit life. Banked credits may be used only for five model years after the year in which they are generated.
  4. (d)Other restrictions. Other sections of this part specify additional restrictions for using credits under certain special provisions.
