1. (a)This subpart contains requirements for production follow-up inspections for life preservers approved under this subpart prior to January 6, 2025.
2. (b)Life preservers approved under this subpart rely upon inherently buoyant material to achieve the minimum buoyancy.
3. (c)Life preservers approved under this subpart are intended to meet the carriage requirements for wearable PFDs for uninspected passenger vessels, uninspected commercial vessels over 40 ft (12m), and for inspected vessels.
4. (d)Each life preserver specified in this subpart is a:
   1. (1)Standard, bib type, vinyl dip coated:
      1. (i)Model 62, adult (for persons weighing over 90 pounds); or
      2. (ii)Model 66, child (for persons weighing less than 90 pounds); or
   2. (2)Standard, bib type, cloth covered;
      1. (i)Model 63, adult (for persons weighing over 90 pounds); or
      2. (ii)Model 67, child (for persons weighing less than 90 pounds); or
   3. (3)Nonstandard, shaped type:
      1. (i)Model, 1 adult (for persons weighing over 90 pounds); or
      2. (ii)Model, 1 child (for persons weighing less than 90 pounds).
