  1. (a)Alterations and repairs to inspected vessels must be done—
    1. (1)Under the direction of the Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection; and
    2. (2)Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, in accordance with the regulations in this subchapter, to the extent practicable.
  2. (b)Minor alterations and repairs may be done in accordance with regulations in effect at the time the vessel was contracted for.
