46 CFR §2.45-10

1. (a)A classification society (including an employee or agent of that society) must not review, examine, survey, or certify the construction, repair, or alteration of a vessel in the United States unless it is approved under the provisions of this subpart.
2. (b)This subpart applies to a recognized organization that meets the definition of a classification society provided in § 2.45-1 of this subpart.
