You must test spent sprout irrigation water (or sprouts) from each production batch for pathogens using:
(a) For E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella species:
(1) The method of analysis described in “Testing Methodologies for E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella species in Spent Sprout Irrigation Water (or Sprouts),” Version 1, October 2015, U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Director of the Federal Register approves this incorporation by reference in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552(a) and 1 CFR part 5. (2) A scientifically valid method that is at least equivalent to the method of analysis in §112.153(a)(1) in accuracy, precision, and sensitivity; and
(b) For any other pathogen(s) meeting the criteria in §112.144(c), a scientifically valid method.
